Strung Out es una banda de música punk procedente de Simi Valley, California (EEUU), formada en 1989. Son conocidos por su estilo en el que mezclan aspectos del punk rock, hardcore melódico, rock progresivo y heavy metal. Técnicos y agresivos, y aun así melódicos y emocionales, han emergido como una de las bandas más fuertes y creativas del punk melódico de su escena local. En el año 2002 editaron el disco compilado Live in Pinarella, Italy.

Machine Gun in the Clown's Hand es el octavo álbum de palabras habladas de Jello Biafra. Los temas cubiertos en el álbum incluyen la Guerra contra el Terrorismo, la crisis energética de California y los problemas de votación en Florida. 

Biafra originalmente tituló el álbum Osama McDonald (una combinación de los nombres de Osama Bin Laden y Ronald McDonald), un nombre que luego fue acreditado en el álbum Never Breathe What You Can't See, que fue grabado con The Melvins.
